When and how did you join Kilkenny RFC?
My Grandad was a former president and my Uncle’s all played with the club, so my family has always had a strong affiliation with the club, from an early stage, but then my Dad got involved as a coach with Mick Daly and Danny McEvoy two club stalwarts and so both my brother and I would have started coming out with him, playing with all the youths teams, like many of the current club members.
Your playing memories or achievements with Kilkenny RFC?
I have to say that some of my best memories overlapped in a period when the club was very successful winning a Provincial Towns Cup and Leinster League double being one achievement I was hugely proud to be part of that success in particular, not only that, but being able to play with some of my youth team members and Kilkenny College Alumni as part of those teams was also an unforgettable experience. Being made Club Captain and playing with my brother was another great memory that I was delighted to have shared during my time playing with the men’s senior team. On final memory I have was the on the club trip to South Africa, it truly was unforgettable and help build the success that was to follow those few years after, but like the old saying “what goes on trip stays...”
What is your favourite part of being a member of Kilkenny RFC?
The best thing about being a member for me is the great comradery that I have with my former team mates, many of whom are now my closest friends, there is nothing better than going out to the club or Saturday or Sunday afternoon to watch a game and continuing on the slagging amongst my old team mates like as if we were getting ready to tog out ourselves. You can define the strength of a club by how your team mates, coaches, clubs members support each other in times of sadness, that was very much demonstrated to my family and I when we lost or Dad over a year ago, the support we got from the club then was truly incredible and I know my family appreciated that support at the time.
